Sony PSP Details Revealed

Details have been announced regarding Sony's PSP today. First off, the cpu is over 300Mhz (that's faster clockwise than the PS2 albeit only 32-bit compared to PS2's 128-bit chipset). Graphics performance-wise it is 33 million polygons a second and supports curved surfaces apparently. Most importantly, it supports hardware clipping, yay! (the PS2 utilizes software clipping and is a serious Achilles heel)

It will also have wireless lan built-in from the get-go.

Overkill perhaps? How much is this thing going to cost? Note also, it is a TFT screen, you aren't going to be able to play this baby outdoors unless it has a serious backlight of some kind.

Anyone remember the Atari Lynx?

Someone explain me what "24bit Full Color:RGBA" is exactly? An "error" in the specs?

>Hardware Clipping, Morphing, Bone(8)
>Hardware Tessellator

That's a giant step for sony :-) maybe there will be some kind of OpenGL by default after all...

I wonder what the resolution will be...256x224 / 740x480 like the playstation?

>Anyone remember the Atari Lynx?
I still have it, it's rotting somewhere in my parent's house...too bad Atari released only 2 (bad) games a year for it. I am still waiting for Rolling thunder, announced but never released (?)

Actually I don't think Sony are going after Nintendo with this machine at all.

It sounds like they're aiming for a "mini-laptop" gaming machine - something with a bit of weight to it (it must be heavy to hold the batteries to run all that spec). Great to use on trains or planes etc.

Do the screen is going to be a decent resolution I think, and of course it mentions 16:9 so it might be something like 720x512 or 512x320.

Multiplayer games are going to be great fun with this machine (via the wlan).

i reckon sony have a machine that makes a worm hole to the other side of the galaxy where they bring back advanced alien technology for use in thier products

it's all about the price my mate is a big nintendo fan, seen the nokia n-gage commercials and he wanted one not knowing the price, i've informed him the cost which totally put him off. i want this psp but only if the price is right due to the fact i just couldn't afford one near the £200 mark
